Playhouse, Peeler, School of Music get arts funding

TERRE HAUTE -- On behalf of the Indiana Arts Commission, Arts Illiana will award 12 arts organizations and arts providers -- including Putnam County Playhouse and the DePauw University Peeler Arts Center and School of Music -- grant funding for the 2016-17 fiscal year.

Arts Illiana administers the Regional Initiative Grant Program for Region Six in Indiana, which includes Putnam, Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties.

Region Six will distribute $72,219 of public funds.

Organizations receiving operational funds include Putnam County Playhouse, Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute Symphony Association, Art Spaces Inc. and the Community Theatre of Terre Haute.

Receiving project funding are DePauw University Peeler Art Center Gallery, DePauw School of Music, Indiana State University Community School of the Arts, Indiana State University School of Music, Community Theatre of Clay County, Terre Haute Community Band and Terre Haute Children’s Choir.

Arts Illiana will honor the grant recipients with an Oct. 27 ceremony in The Deming Lobby, 615 Cherry St., Terre Haute, beginning at 6 p.m.

Keynote speaker for the evening will be Miah Michaelsen, deputy director of the Indiana Arts Commission.

Providing entertainment for the evening will be cast members of the Putnam County Playhouse musical “1776” and Theater 7, a new theater arts organization in Terre Haute.
