Putnamville staff members honored at annual conference

Three Putnamville Correctional Facility staff members were recognized during the recent Indiana Criminal Justice Association (ICJA) Conference held in Michigan City.

Superintendent Brian Smith was given the Distinguished Service Award for his superior leadership skills, guidance, and direction to peers.

His commitment to improving the quality of life for offenders and staff, recruitment of employees, and cost saving initiatives makes him a significant contributor to the Indiana Department of Correction.

Maintenance Supervisor Bryan Archer was honored to receive the Physical Plant Employee of the Year for his hard work during a facility power outage that was detrimental to safety and security as well as his organization and professionalism on the job.

He demonstrates diligence and professionalism at all times and is always willing to go beyond the call of duty.

Shawn Hughes was awarded the coveted Teacher of the Year Award for his dedication to education of offenders.

Shawn is well respected throughout the facility by his colleagues, the facility administration and his students. He is a bright, talented and masterful teacher in the classroom.
