Meadow drive fire punctuates busy Sunday afternoon for GFD
A fire at a home on Meadow Drive concluded a busy afternoon for Greencastle firefighters on Sunday.

Crews arrived at the Jenelle Wheeler residence to find a fire in a dryer in the basement and all five occupants, two adults and three children, already evacuated.
They quickly extinguished the fire by 3:40 p.m. and also saved a couple of cats.
The remainder of firefighters’ time on the scene was spent clearly smoke out of the house, checking the power and shutting off the gas.
A total of 11 firefighters on three trucks responded to the scene. The Greencastle Police Department was also on the scene for traffic control on Shadowlawn Drive.
Capt. Kenneth Shepherd estimated damage at about $2,500 to the interior from smoke damage and $500 on destroyed contents.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:47 p.m.
The call came after firefighters responded to a vehicle that crashed into KFC in the early afternoon and directly on the heels of a truck fire southwest of Greencastle.
At 3:16 p.m. GFD was dispatched to the vehicle fire on County Road 250 West near the Capt. Jim Baugh Firearms Range.
Firefighters arrived to find a flatbed Chevrolet with the engine compartment on fire.
They quickly put out the fire, which was maintained to the engine compartment and dash before having to leave in less than 10 minutes for the house fire.
“We literally put it out and they already called for the house fire so we took off and went to it,” Shepherd said.
