County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 6:37 p.m. Andre Dwayne Giden, 39, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant for strangulation, battery and residential entry.

• At 10:28 a.m. Trevor Glyndon Meeks Jr., 25, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a warrant for driving while suspended.

• At 2:16 a.m. Melissa Ann Payne, 35, Cloverdale, was charged with battery.

Sunday

• At 1:18 p.m. Aaron Billy Barnett, 18, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a Montgomery County warrant for fraud.

Saturday

• At 10:33 p.m. Gerard Anthony Garcia, 42, Indianapolis, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and operating as a habitual traffic violator.

• At 5:20 p.m. Stephen Eugene Seketa, 36, Greencastle, was booked in on a writ of body attachment.

• At 1:53 p.m. Nathan Anthony Hoffman, 28, Spencer, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for theft, possession of methamphetamine, theft and fleeing/resisting law enforcement.

Friday

• At 5:30 p.m. Carlos D’Angelo Kline, 26, Greencastle, was taken into custody for sexual exploitation of a minor.

• At 3:35 p.m. Zachariah Levi Harwood, 29, Lebanon, was housed at the jail on a warrant for invasion of privacy.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police.

• At 7:55 p.m. on Monday, Hunter Tippin, 18, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Matt Huffman at a Frazier Street address.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Tippin is facing charges of public nudity, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer.

• At 12:27 a.m. on Monday, Samantha Mitchell, 32, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Zach Rhine at an Avenue B residence.

Charged with disorderly conduct, Mitchell was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One recent citation was issued by GPD officers.

• At 2:29 a.m. on Friday, Charles Alexander, 31, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Brad Hiatt.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Alexander was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to eight recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:33 a.m. on Monday, Tony L. Burnham, 48, Cloverdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 800 North in a 2013 Chevrolet K1500 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman reported heavy front-end damage to the truck, an estimated $5,001-$10,000. The truck was towed.

• At 2:20 a.m. on Friday, Tamara J. Hendry, 24, Indianapolis, was southbound on County Road 700 East approaching a 90-degree turn at County Road 300 North in a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon.

Hendry was unable to reduce her speed enough for the turn, running off the road and hitting a tree before coming to rest against a power pole.

Deputy Jacob Harrington suspected alcohol was involved. A portable breath test revealed a .23 BAC.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000. The vehicle was towed.

Deputy Riley Houghton assisted at the scene.

• At 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nancy A. Huber, 82, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 25 South in a 2008 Cadillac DTS when she hit a deer.

Deputy Harrington estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 4:23 p.m. on Thursday, Ronald W. Martin, 52, Rockville, was westbound on U.S. 36 at the intersection of County Road 600 East in a 2001 Honda Civic. Martin was at a complete stop behind a vehicle waiting to turn left.

Approaching from the rear was a 1998 Lincoln Continental driven by Matthew C. Winters, 21, Clinton. Winters told Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle he and his passengers were observing a house on the north side of the road. When he looked forward, he could not get his vehicle stopped before rear-ending Martin’s vehicle.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed. All parties refused medical treatment.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 12:49 p.m. on Thursday, Katrina S. Traver, 36, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 150 West in a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban. She told Deputy Freeman she began coughing and reached for her inhaler.

At this point, she hit a concrete barrier on the west side of the road.

Traver complained of arm and shoulder pain. Operation Life transported her to Putnam County Hospital.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, Tommy W. Brown, 63, Greencastle, was backing a 2013 Freightliner dump truck owned by the Putnam County Highway Department on County Road 750 West. He did not notice a southbound 2005 Buick Regal owned by James J. Withrow, 76, Centerpoint.

Withrow told Deputy Freeman he tried to avoid the collision but the dump truck collided with the driver’s side rear door of his car.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 7:53 a.m. on Thursday, Michael Clark, 29, Ingalls, Ind., was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching U.S. 40 in a 2016 Jeep Commander. Clark told Deputy Mike Downing that as he approached the south entrance of South Putnam Schools, a car pulled out in front of him.

Clarke was unable to avoid a collision.

Brenda Ogborn, 25, Brazil, was pulling out in a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. She said she did not notice the headlights approaching and pulled out.

Both vehicles were towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 8:31 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, Marsha K. Probst, 62, Noblesville, was eastbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 475 East in a 1994 Dodge Ram.

Probst told Deputy Downing a cow walked into her lane and she could not avoid the animal.

The collision completely disabled the vehicle. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to five dispatches and one medical assist.

• At 5:18 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 303 S. Locust St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 5:31 p.m.

• At 12:48 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at the new Hoover Hall, located at 101 E. Hanna St., on the campus of DePauw University. A device in the kitchen had reportedly become hot but was extinguished prior to GFD’s arrival. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 12:55 p.m.

• At 6:45 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 821 Indianapolis Rd. The alarm was determined to have been set off unnecessarily due to maintenance performed on the alarm system. GFD returned to station at 6:53 p.m.

• At 10:07 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to smoking on the third floor at 110 E. Larrabee St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 10:22 p.m.

• At 8:41 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD performed an odor investigation at 1216 Bloomington St., Lot 77 after receiving reports of a possible gas leak in the area. GFD monitored the air and found nothing. GFD subsequently returned to station.
