Unconscious man found in U.S. 40 ditch

An off-duty Indiana State Police trooper was westbound on U.S. 40 in Putnam County, approaching U.S. 231, Monday night when he noticed a noticed a man lying on his back in the ditch on the north side of U.S. 40 about 6 p.m.

Trooper Colton Maynor of the Putnamville Post stopped to check on the man and found him unresponsive.

The trooper summoned EMS personnel and then utilized physical stimulus to bring the male to a semi-conscious state. Maynor continued to monitor the victim’s vital signs until arrival of paramedics from Putnam County Operation Life.

The 21-year-old Indianapolis man was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment where he was found to be under the influence of Hydrocodone and Xanax and was experiencing mental health issues.

The young man was reportedly walking westbound and collapsed prior to being discovered by Trooper Maynor.

Assisting were deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and paramedics from Putnam County Operation Life.
