Gerry Lee Evens

Gerry Lee Evens of Cloverdale, the legend—known for shenanigans such as jumping off the bridge on State Road 42 for a case of Stroh’s and trying to outrun the police down a Greencastle railroad track in his younger years and known in his more mature years for spoiling his grandchildren and flirting shamelessly with his bride of 53 years until the end—has passed at the age of 74.

Gerry has passed down a legacy of unconditional love for family and the ability to find humor in any situation.

He is survived by his beautiful wife Ruby; his sister Patricia Evens; his children Kathy (Warren) Evans, Betty (Tony) Tungett and Amy (Bob) Goodpaster; his grandchildren PJ (Beth) Evens, Alesha (Daniel) Parker, Wes (Shelby) Evans, Kelsey and Nathan Tungett, Kaysea (Juan) and Sylvia Lewis and Maddox and Xarra (Nancy) Goodpaster; his great-grandchildren Karma and Annabeth Evens; and his dog (aka best friend) Sally.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Barbara Jean Arnold.

He will be missed terribly by many, until we meet again.

His mantra in his 20s was to look in the mirror and say, “You good looking SOB, don’t you ever die,” and he gave it one hell

of a good run.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 7 from 4-7 p.m. with the memorial service starting at 7 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale.
