Members of the Putnam County Fraternal Order of Police recently made a donation of $4,000 to the Indiana Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS). The contribution comes from the proceeds of this year’s PCLEO 5K Fun Run and FOP Golf Scramble. Local cops and COPS officials on hand for the donation are (from left) Nate Lien, Mike Downing, Brad Williams, Tom Helmer, Kathy Sherman (COPS), Nancee Hetrick (COPS), Darrel Bunten, Eric Vaughan, Jerrod Baugh, David Barber, Ed Wilson and Zach Rhine. Each year, between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. COPS provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives. There is no membership fee to join COPS, for the price paid is already too high. Putnam County FOP Lodge President Jerrod Baugh stated, “I am very proud of the hard work these officers put into our events for this cause. The COPS organization was there for my family in our time of sorrow and continues to support those families forced into these realities.” Citizens are encouraged to watch for the FOP annual events in 2017 and sponsorships are always welcome.
