PUTNAMVILLE – Two new probationary troopers have reported for duty at the Indiana State Police Post in Putnamville.

They are two of the 55 new troopers reporting to their districts of assignment following graduation from the 76th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Their recent graduation marked the culmination of 22 weeks of intense training exceeding 948 hours. Some subject areas of training included criminal and traffic law, crash investigations, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, firearms and a host of other subjects related to modern policing.

Kevin A. Fowler, 21, is a Morgan County native, a graduate of Martinsville High School and a graduate of Vincennes University with an Associate of Science degree in conservation law enforcement.

Prior to graduating from the ISP Recruit Academy, Fowler was a 911 dispatcher for the Morgan County Central Dispatch. Fowler, who will primarily patrol Putnam County, resides in Martinsville.

He enjoys hunting and fishing and anything outdoors.

Courtland A. Woodruff, 28, is an Illinois native having graduated from Jacksonville (Ill.) High School and Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology. Prior to his graduation from the ISP Academy, Woodruff was a pharmacy technician. He enjoys exercising, the outdoors and anything sports related.

Woodruff, who will be primarily assigned to patrol Vigo County, resides in Terre Haute.

The two new troopers will continue their training for the next three months as part of the ISP Field Training Program.

The Field Training Program pairs new troopers with veteran troopers, or Field Training Officers, (FTOs,) to allow the new troopers to take what they learned in the recruit academy and apply it in the field under the close supervision of the FTO. Upon successful completion of their field training, they will be issued their own commissions and be assigned solo patrol responsibilities.
