Vote ‘Yes’ for Public Question 1

Thursday, November 3, 2016

To the Editor:

The public is confused as to why this question is on the Indiana Ballot this November.

Here is an explanation by Indiana Sen. Jim Tomes in a letter sent by he and his wife, Margie, leaders of the 2nd Amendment Patriots, dated Oct. 27:

“Over the years there have been organizations and individuals who have attempted to use the legislature to negatively impact the tradition of hunting and fishing. This has happened across the country in other states as well.

“The intent of this measure is to ask the citizens if they would like to permanently protect this heritage by securing it in the constitution to avoid a future legislature, administration, organization or individual from potentially making this a perpetual encounter. It does nothing more. The duties of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and Indiana Department of Fish and Wildlife are unaffected.

“I hope that the measure will be approved, but it’s a yes-or-no question, so vote your conscience. Keep in mind, this will make Indiana the 20th state to have done this.”
