Traditional Veterans Day program set for Friday

The traditional 11th-hour, 11th-month, 11th-day Veterans Day program is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at the Putnam County Courthouse in Greencastle.

While the ceremony is normally conducted on the south side of the courthouse, there is ongoing construction in that area. No official word was available at presstime on whether or not the ceremony will be moved to another location at the courthouse.

The ceremony will include an Honor Guard of VFW and American Legion veterans firing a traditional 21-gun salute, while Greencastle’s James Staggers, deputy state chaplain and division chaplain for the 38th Infantry Division, will be the featured speaker.

Among other local Veterans Day activities of note:

-- 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. programs at Tzouanakis with Staggers and another soldier.

-- 2 p.m., the VFW will be handing out awards at The Waters of Greencastle.

-- 5:30 p.m., dinner with speaker at the Greencastle American Legion.

-- 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 dinner at the‎Elks Club in Greencastle with a speaker.
