Coping with seasonal blues

Sunday, November 13, 2016

Do you ever fell blue during the “happiest” time of the year?

Though you may think you are alone, you are not. From fall to March people of all ages experience varying degrees of emotional states that may be described as discouragement or lingering sadness.

However, others experience bouts of severe depression accompanied by thoughts of and attempts at suicide. The Greencastle community has two resources available to help individuals cope with their seasonal challenges.

The Mental Health America of Putnam County and Purdue Cooperative Extension Service will be hosting “It Can Happen...,” a suicide prevention and awareness presentation on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Peeler Auditorium at DePauw University. For more information, contact Karen Martoglio at 765-653-3310 or info@mhaopc.org.

The Greencastle Grace Tabernacle will be hosting “Coping with Seasonal Blues,” a series of classes to be taught at 407 Percy Julian Drive at 7 p.m. on the following times:

• Nov. 15, “Facing Your Ghosts of Christmas Past”

• Nov. 29, “Launching Your Coping Skills for this Holiday Season”

• Dec. 6, “Mindset Changes: Staying in the Present and Looking Forward to the Future”
