County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 4:07 p.m. Zachary Layne Fleming, 36, Santa Claus, Ind., was housed at the jail on a warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 3:32 p.m. James Timothy Coy, 38, Greencastle, was taken into custody for battery, disorderly conduct and probation violation.

• At 2:48 p.m. Kristina Marie White, 41, Terre Haute, was charged with operating while intoxicated with injury.

Friday

• At 3:53 p.m. Randall Layne McMullin, 51, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

• At 3:36 p.m. Daniel James Ketner, 52, Franklin, was taken into custody on a court order.

• At 2:33 p.m. Alison Joan Morrison, 27, Greencastle, was booked in on a Hendricks County warrant.

• At 1:06 p.m. Bradley Ross Hudson, 30, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a court order.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

The latest occurred at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday when Wimberly Tyler, 37, Terre Haute, was stopped on Bloomington Street by Officer Zach Rhine.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Tyler faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and for being an habitual traffic violator.

Tyler registered a blood-alcohol content level of .274 percent, more than three times the legal limit of .08 for intoxication.

Meanwhile, early Sunday an attempted theft at the Walmart store resulted in the arrest of two Greencastle people.

Officer Matt Huffman arrested Morgan L. Roush, 34, at a residence on U.S. 40 for attempted theft, possession of a controlled substance, false informing and false identity statement.

At the same time, Huffman arrested Joshua Samuel Stephens, 37, Greencastle, for assisting a criminal and parole violation. Stephens was also lodged in the local jail.

Roush is accused of attempting to shoplift $424.69 worth of food and merchandise from Walmart. She reportedly paid for $30 worth of items and then attempted to push a cart loaded with the other merchandise out of the store.

Three recent citations were issued by city officers.

• At 11:31 p.m. Friday, Frederick Gibson, 30, Indianapolis, was cited Officer Brad Hiatt for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Gibson was driving a vehicle that had become disabled on State Road 240 when Hiatt was summoned to the scene for assistance.

• At 7:07 p.m. Friday, Andrew Birt, 25, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Capt. Charles Inman at a South Spring Street residence for possession of marijuana.

• At 6:10 p.m. Friday, Curtis Cooper, 32, Greencastle, was ticketed by Capt. Inman.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Cooper was cited for having an expired license plate (March 2016).

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:59 p.m. on Saturday, Rita M. Christopher, 48, Bainbridge, was eastbound on County Road 350 North at County Road 375 West when she hit a deer.

Deputy Riley Houghton estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 7:53 p.m. on Friday, Ryan R. Robinson, 22, Coatesville, was southbound on County Road 825 East in a 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. He told Deputy Houghton he was traveling too fast to make the 90-degree turn onto County Road 525 North, particularly since the road was wet.

The vehicle began to slide and crossed into the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Melissa A. Hammer, 39, Clinton, who was attempting to turn left.

Hammer’s vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 5 p.m. on Friday, Michele R. Patten, 27, Cloverdale, was southbound on Meridian Line Road in a 2016 GMC Acadia attempting to turn into a driveway when a tree fell over and hit the passenger side.

Deputy Jacob Harrington estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 6:40 a.m. on Friday, Christopher M. Baker, 23, Russellville, was westbound on State Road 236 just past County Road 500 West when he hit a deer.

Deputy Matt Biggs estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to seven dispatches, two lift assists and two medical runs.

• At 2:46 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to an alarm at 800 S. Locust St. but was disregarded en route.

• At 1:47 p.m. on Saturday, GFD assisted the Madison Township Fire Department in the extinguishment of a small barn at 6696 W. County Road 125 North. The barn, reportedly 100 years old, had nearly burned to the ground upon arrival. GFD returned to station at 3:30 p.m.

• At 1:09 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to and saw to the extinguishment of a stucture fire at 2984 W. County Road 125 South. With only light smoke visible upon arrival, GFD quickly had the situation under control at 1:35 p.m. and prevented any major damage. An electrical short in the attic was found to be the cause. GFD returned to station at 2:40 p.m.

• At 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to reports of a gasoline spill at the Casey’s filling station, located at 1215 S. Bloomington St. GFD cleaned up the spill and returned to station at 1:55 p.m.

• At 2:01 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 418 E. Washington St. An electrical short in an outlet, believed to have been caused by mopping, was to blame. GFD returned to station at 2:19 p.m.

• At 2:48 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at DePauw University’s Humbert Hall, located at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm was determined to have been set off unnecessarily by a dirty detector head. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 3:03 p.m.

• At 11:27 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at the Putnam County Hospital but was disregarded en route.
