City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to three dispatches.

• At 5:18 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at Kroger (521 Indianapolis Rd.). With no problems found, GFD returned to station at 5:35 p.m.

• At 8:49 p.m. on Thursday, GFD performed an odor investigation at Dollar General (1520 Indianapolis Rd.). No problems were visible and no gas was detected in the air. The odor was believed to have resulted from cleaning chemicals the Dollar General staff was using in the business’ bathroom. GFD returned to station at 9:17 p.m.

• At 10:25 a.m. on Friday, GFD disregarded a run to assist the Cloverdale Fire Department with a structure fire after receiving reports of a fire within Greencastle city limits at the Walmart Distribution Center (333 S. Warren Dr.). Both fires turned out to be of no concern, with the latter believed to have resulted from malfunctioning equipment that produced a “burning odor.”

During these runs, a motor-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and U.S. 231. See the story on Page 1A of today’s edition.
