A fire in the kitchen of a Greencastle restaurant was quickly contained Monday morning.

At 11:08 a.m., the Greencastle Fire Department responded to the call of a structure fire at Long John Silver’s, 1016 Indianapolis Rd.

With two engines responding to the scene, firefighters arrived to restaurant employees telling them there had been a small grease fire in the fryer area.

The fire was out when firefighters entered the building, having been put out by employees with a fire extinguisher.

From there, fire crews investigated for further damage. No structural damage was found.

The Putnam County Health Department was called in to investigate the scene as well.

Following the fire, the kitchen was completely cleaned by Long John Silver’s employees.

Although a contractor was called in to assess and possibly repair the fryer, the restaurant had not reopened as of Tuesday evening.
