County Jail

One person was booked in the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

• At 2:46 a.m. Cody Allen Gray, 26, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for receiving stolen auto parts.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:20 p.m. on Thursday, Roy T. Knowling, 73, Roachdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 north of County Road 500 North in a 1994 Cadillac DeVille when he hit a deer.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday, two drivers backed into each other while exiting their parking spaces at North Putnam High School.

Brandon J. Barker, 17, Roachdale, was in a 2011 Chevrolet Impala. Terran V. Wittig, 16, Bainbridge, was in a 2002 Saturn SL.

Deputy Matt Biggs reported the two teens were parked on opposite sides of the thoroughfare, in one another’s blind spots.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to four dispatches and two medical assists.

• At 3:29 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD performed an odor investigation at 22 W. Washington St. GFD investigated the smell of gas in the building but was unable to find any readings. GFD returned to station at 3:38 p.m.

• At 6:29 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 24 S. Indiana St. The alarm was determined to have been set off unnecessarily and GFD returned to station at 6:47 p.m.

• At 1:29 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to reports of a dumpster fire that burned overnight at 1021 Indianapolis Rd. A subsequent investigation returned no results. GFD saw to the extinguishment of the blaze and returned to station at 2:13 p.m.

• At 4:18 a.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident in the area of Manhattan Road near Greencastle. GFD assisted in the removal of debris from the roadway before returning to station at 4:47 a.m.
