Robert Clinton "Fiddler" Johnston Jr., 78, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 in Danville, Ind.

He was born June 12, 1938 in New Maysville.

He was a supervisor at JC Products.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

"Fiddler" was a bluegrass musician, playing a fiddle and was inducted into the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Hall of Fame on June 17, 2008.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, yard work and was a master storyteller.

He was a life member of the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge 669.

He is survived by five children, Diana Lawhorn of Roachdale, Roberta (Daniel) Wessel of Camby, Robert C. (Trudy) Johnston III of Indianapolis, Richard "Rick" (Cammie) Johnston of Coatesville, and Debbie (Allan) Mehl of Indianapolis, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Johnston, in February 2016; his mother, Stella (Long) Cartherhauser; his father, Robert C. Johnston Sr.; and a son, William Johnston.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Saturday, Dec. 31 at Roachdale Christian Church, 1 N. Walnut St., Roachdale.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 30, from noon to 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Burial will be at New Maysville Cemetery.

Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, has been entrusted with arrangements.
