County Jail

Five people have been booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• Dilraz Singh Gill, 25, Modesto, Calif, was housed at the jail for possession of a narcotic drug.

Tuesday

• At 7:05 p.m. William Leonard Matthews, 36, Reelsville, was lodged at the jail for strangulation, domestic battery and on a local warrant.

• At 3:40 p.m. James Alan Crawford, 59, Roachdale, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 10:41 a.m. Dillon Joe Pate, 26, Franklin, was housed at the jail on a theft warrant.

• At 10:35 a.m. Amilia Noel Faucett, 22, Cloverdale, was booked in on a writ of body attachment.

City Police

A 28-year-old Vigo County woman was arrested Tuesday on theft charges, Greencastle City Police reported.

Sara Michelle Pruett, Terre Haute, was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of theft and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance after she was apprehended at the Greencastle McDonald’s about 1 p.m.

Officer Kyle Lee reported that Pruett allegedly took $50 cash, a wallet, sweatpants and other items from an Illinois Street apartment where she had stayed the night before.

• At 10:27 p.m. Tuesday, Ryan Basler, 32, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Elsiana Crosby at an Avenue D residence.

Charged with possession of paraphernalia, Basler will be summoned into court on that charge.

One recent property-damage accident was investigated by city officers.

• At 6:40 a.m. Dec. 21, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Shadowlawn Avenue at College Avenue.

Ronald Shillings, 38, Greencastle, had stopped his 1997 Chevrolet pickup westbound on Shadowlawn at the College Avenue stopsign, waiting for a 2015 Chevrolet truck, owned by the City of Greencastle, to proceed northbound through the intersection.

When Shillings continued westbound, Officer Kyle Lee reported, the snowplow on his truck struck the city vehicle, damaging a fender and door.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Joshua W. Query, 35, Greencastle, was southbound on State Road 243 in a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis when he lost control, left the road and hit a telelphone pole.

The car was towed. Deputy Riley Houghton estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 7:57 a.m. on Saturday, Reserve Deputy Kenneth Rozelle, 55, Coatesville, was northbound on Heritage Drive to assist another reserve deputy in a 2012 Dodge Charger police vehicle registered to Putnam County.

Rozelle told Deputy Elizabeth Campbell a deer ran into the road and he could not avoid it.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 2:47 p.m. on Friday, Randall R. Patrick, 42, Cloverdale, was eastbound on Crosswind Street in Cloverdale, entering the Dollar General parking lot.

Another vehicle was exiting the lot. Patrick told Deputy Campbell he was trying to avoid the other vehicle and hit a pole.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 5:25 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, Deja V. Johnson, 23, Indianapolis, was westbound on State Road 240 just west of County Road 500 East at the east end of Chadd Valley in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala.

According to Lt. Donnie Pettit, Johnson veered slightly off the right side of the road, then overcorrected, losing control. The vehicle rotated counterclockwise and collided with an eastbound 2004 GMC Envoy driven by Jennifer L. McCallie, 54, Greencastle.

Johnson’s vehicle rotated off McCallie’s and came to rest facing northeast, just off the south side of the road. McCallie’s vehicle spun counterclockwise and came to rest facing northwest just off the south side.

Operation Life transported both Johnson and McCallie from the scene with leg injuries.

Johnson told Pettit she hit a patch of ice and lost control.

A witness in another car said he was westbound on State Road 240 and noticed Johnson’s car in his rearview mirror, approaching at a high rate of speed. The witness said he slowed down in the event Johnson passed. He said Johnson lost control at that time.

Another witness said she had been westbound on 240 near Suburban Gas Co. when Johnson passed her and another vehicle on a double yellow. The witness said she had to drive on the shoulder to avoid being sideswiped.

A third witness said she was westbound when Johnson passed her and three other vehicles on a double yellow. The witness said Johnson was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Johnson was charged with Class A misdemeanor driving with a suspended or revoked license with a prior infraction and Class B misdemeanor reckless driving.

She was also cited for driving without financial responsibility.

Both vehicles were towed. Pettit estimated damage at $25,001-$50,000.

Reserve Deputy Rick Lambert and Greencastle Sgt. Ed Wilson also assisted at the scene.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to one dispatch.

• At 10:26 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 630 Tennessee St. GFD investigated the situation before resetting the alarm and returning to station.
