Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Brown investigated a Wednesday, Dec. 28 hit-and-run crash on U.S. 40.

At 9:09 p.m., Brown responded to the call on U.S. 40 near Manhattan Road where Jonathan C. Madison, 25, Terre Haute, had been westbound in a 214 Dodge Journey.

Madison told Deputy Brown a pickup in the median turnaround began to pull into his lane. Madison swerved off the road to try and avoid the collision, but the pickup hit his driver’s side rear.

The two vehicles pulled to the side of the road and Madison checked on the other driver, who he described as an older gentleman. The two spoke, but then the older man left the scene.

Madison was able to give Brown a plate number, which the deputy used to try and locate the driver.

This attempt was not successful, as the plate number was inactive, having expired in 2014.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
