Greencastle swimmers win pair at Edgewood

ELLETTSVILLE – Greencastle won a pair of high school swimming meets from Edgewood on Tuesday, winning the girls’ meet 102-76 and edging the Mustangs 93-92 in the boys’ meet.

“We expected a close meet on both sides of the pool, and we were definitely not disappointed,” GHS coach Kent Menzel said. “Though the girls were in command throughout the evening, the boys fought race by race to pull out the win.”

Sophomore Grace Gillen continued to lead the way for the Tiger Sharks with wins in the 200 IM and the 100 Fly, and was joined by several other event winners including freshman Sarah Heithaus in the 50 free, sophomore Abby Meyer in the 100 back and sophomore Sydney Lewis in the 100 Breast.

Menzel noted the boys’ meet lead traded back and forth all night long, until freshman Henry Carter powered through to win the the 100 Back. Carter was joined by sophomore Donovan Asbell in second and freshman Dalton Matthews in 4th.

That block of points sealed the win, Menzel said, along with an “exclamation point” 400 free relay victory by junior Preston Headley, sophomore Ben Parsons, freshman Jack Riggle and senior Nathan Gobert.
