Irene Clark, 97, of New Castle, formerly of Reelsville, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017.

Irene was born Aug. 19, 1919 in Martin County, Ky., the daughter of the late John and Mattie Lanham.

She married Charles Albert (Bill) Clark in 1936 and began her role as a wife and homemaker in Greencastle and later Reelsville.

She welcomed spending time with her family and friends. She particularly enjoyed participating in various local groups, community activities, reading and pursuing various hobbies.

During her later years she enjoyed sharing her time between Florida and Indiana with family. In 2008 she moved to New Castle, to be with her daughter, Wilma Borders.

She is survived by daughters Wilma Borders (husband Philip) and Sandra Clark; daughter-in-law Fran Clark; grandsons Philip Andrew Borders (Anne), Robert Clark, Scott Clark and James Zachary Clark (Kim); granddaughters Traci and Kristi Clark, great-grandsons Philip Borders, William Borders, Treyten and Taurin Clark; nieces Barbara Wood (David), Patricia Bombei (David) and Mary Anne Whaley (Mike); and nephews, Charles Lee (Sandy), Jerry Wayne Lee and Steve Clark (Michele).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, her son Charles Wayne Clark, sisters Francis Clark, Lula Powers, Elizabeth Hall, twin sister Christine Lee and brothers, Tom, Porter and Pius Lanham.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with interment to follow at the Putnamville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. on Monday until time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers a contribution could be made in Irene Clark's name to the Putnam County Community Foundation for the Reelsville Scholarship Fund
