Area 30 graduates generate $20,000

During Tuesday’s Area 30 Governing Board meeting, Director Lora Busch announced that 92 of 148 graduates (62 percent) have earned a total of $20,000 for Area 30 by completing state certifications.

Monies were also generated by completing national certifications, but the exact amount was not available. A final report is expected by the end of January.

Funds are also generated by students who earn dual credits or perform six or more hours in the same pathway.

In other developments:

-- Awards of Excellence: North Putnam High School welding student Grace Willer and the law enforcement program were selected to receive Indiana Career and Technical Education Awards for Excellence. A ceremony is set for Feb. 17.

“We were really excited,” Director Busch said. “We’re super proud that we had not just one but the two that applied received the award.”

-- College information night: Area 30 will host an open house and college information night Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Help with filling out FAFSA forms will be available. All sophomores and juniors will receive an invitation.

-- 2016 financial report: The board unanimously approved the Dec. 2016 financial report at a total of $190,748.83, a decrease from November of $17,539.85 and of $67,954.17 from the March- December average.

-- FOP Santa Drop: Director Lora Busch reported that students participated in the FOP Santa Toy Drop by wrapping more than 400 presents for 34 Putnam County children.

-- Wal-Mart grant: The board accepted a grant of $1,000 from Wal-Mart to purchase new supplies and equipment for the EMT program.

The next Area 30 Governing Board meeting will be Feb. 14 at 9 a.m. at the Area 30 Career Center.
