Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:08 a.m. on Thursday, William R. Campbell, 68, Gravenhurst, Ont., was parked in the Cloverdale Travel Plaza, facing east in a 2007 Mack Vision semi tractor-trailer.

Campbell told Capt. Tom Helmer he started to take off but his vehicle began to roll backward, rolling into the front bumper of a 2015 Freightliner Cascade.

Campbell said he thought the brakes on his trailer were locked up and did not realize his vehicle was rolling back.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Lisa G. Timmons, 51, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 725 East in a 2013 Chevrolet Impala. Darrell L. McHargue, 53, Roachdale, was southbound in a 2007 Peterbilt.

Timmons told Capt. Helmer he was unaware of black ice on the road and the rear of the vehicle began to slide right as she rounded a curve. She traveled left of center as she tried to regain control, crossing into the path of McHargue’s truck.

With no time to react, McHargue hit the right rear of Timmons’ car, which spun around, left the road and came to rest on top of a drainage pipe. McHargue’s truck left the left the road and stopped.

McHargue helped Timmons from her car. She complained of pain in her chest and Operation Life transported her to Hendricks Regional.

Floyd Township Fire Department and Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle both provided assistance at the scene.

Both vehicles were towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.
