Miles’ 2011 Ford Explorer collided with a semi driven by James D. Runyon, 73, of Linden, at County Road 300 South, just south of Crawfordsville. Runyon, who was headed southbound at the time of the collision, died Dec. 26 at Eskenazi Hospital, Indianapolis.

Both Runyon and Miles were airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital from the scene of the accident, which saw both vehicles catch fire.

Her son, Jakob Spangler, 18, was initially taken by ambulance to St. Franciscan Health in Crawfordsville and later to St. Vincent Hospital for surgery on a shattered arm.
