Ellen Miller Sedlack

Ellen Miller Sedlack, 78, of Greencastle, was born into eternal life on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017.

Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of George and Catherine (Walsh) Miller.

In 1962 she married Robert P. Sedlack at Notre Dame and he survives.

Mrs. Sedlack earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at St. Xavier College, Chicago, and her Master of Library Science at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.

She was the director of the Putnam County Public Library from 1972 to 2001. During her tenure, the 1996 addition was built. For this achievement she received the Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year award for 2000 and was made a Sagamore of the Wabash in 2001.

In addition to her loving husband, survivors include daughter Catherine Hayek (Thomas) of St. Louis; daughter-in-law Theresa Sedlack of South Bend; and four grandchildren, Ellen and Thomas Hayek Jr. and Emma and Robert Sedlack III.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Sedlack Jr.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Greencastle. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Putnam County Library or St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
