Peggy M. Thomas, 81, of Plainfield, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017.

Mrs. Thomas was born Oct. 16, 1935 in North Vernon. She was the daughter of John B. West and Bernice L. (Klekot) West, both of whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. Thomas had three brothers and one sister who also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Mortimer (Mort) Thomas, of Plainfield, and five children, Denise Pursell (Ralph), Susan Coffey (Bob), Lauren Messer, Carol Thomas and Tim Thomas (Wendy); five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Peggy was a talented artist with a giving-generous heart and she loved God. Her desire was to have a large enough family to fill a church pew.

She left her family and friends briefly and moved to Boca Raton, Fla., to support her husband's career with IBM. After 10 years Mort retired and they moved back to Greencastle to enjoy grandparenting and open a craft shop, Rosewood Crafts.

In 1996 Mort and Peggy closed the craft shop and moved to Plainfield.

She was a member of Plainfield Christian Church.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a celebration of life at 1 p.m. at Hampton Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
