Five county wrestlers claim WIC titles; Tiger Cubs second

ELLETTSVILLE — Five Putnam County athletes won individual titles on Saturday at the Western Indiana Conference wrestling meet, while Greencastle finished second in the team standings.

Highlighting the local performances were two intracounty title matchups, with Greencastle’s Chandler Sounders defeated Jacob Plessinger of North Putnam in the 160-pound class, while Joe January of Greencastle edged Bobby Phillips of the Cougars in overtime in the 285-pound class.

Other winners were Greencastle’s Michael Anderson (138) and Cade Winslow (220) and Kyle Shaffer of South Putnam, who won the 195-pound class and remained undefeated on the season at 35-0.

Those athletes also placing second were Jake Overstreet of Greencastle (106), Damon Attkisson of North Putnam (120), Trace Thomas of Greencastle (152) and Reuben Edwads of North Putnam (170).

Putnam County athletes finishing third were Austin Wilson of South Putnam (132) and Trae Carrington of Greencastle (145).
