Thursday, January 26, 2017

The Putnam County Public Library will welcome local author Doug Bedwell for a Wednesday, Feb. 1 appearance.

The 6 p.m. program is free and open to the public. The library is located at 103 E. Poplar St., Greencastle.

Bedwell will discuss his creative process and the challenges of making the shift from writing drama to writing narrative fiction. He will read an excerpt from his new novel and will conclude by taking questions from the audience.

After the presentation, a book-signing session is scheduled at which time copies of “Robot Captain” and Bedwell’s collected plays will be available for purchase.

“Robot Captain” is set in a future that is both weird and weirdly familiar. The book is filled with reluctant heroes, strange aliens, lunatic machines and more than a few twisted surprises.

The story centers around the crew of the starship Undertoe, which is owned by the Galactic Freedom Corporation, a huge interstellar conglomerate. Faced with absurd assignments and deadly peril, the crew struggle just to survive and do their jobs, even as their ship becomes a key pawn in a grand scheme to seize control of the galactic economy.
