Wrestling sectionals set for Saturday; Cubs, Cougars win

Friday, January 27, 2017

Putnam County’s wrestling squads will travel to Avon on Saturday to compete in the Indiana High School Athletic Association sectional.

Kyle Shaffer of South Putnam enters the tourney undefeated at 35-0 in the 195-pound weight class, and is looking to make a return trip to the state finals after being sidelined by injury last year.

Brownsburg won the sectional title last year, led by seven first-place finishers, while Avon was second and Danville was third.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the Mooresville Regional on Feb. 4.
