Wrestling sectionals set for Saturday; Cubs, Cougars win
Putnam Countys wrestling squads will travel to Avon on Saturday to compete in the Indiana High School Athletic Association sectional.
Kyle Shaffer of South Putnam enters the tourney undefeated at 35-0 in the 195-pound weight class, and is looking to make a return trip to the state finals after being sidelined by injury last year.
Brownsburg won the sectional title last year, led by seven first-place finishers, while Avon was second and Danville was third.
The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the Mooresville Regional on Feb. 4.

North Putnam 72, Eminence 6 At Eminence, North Putnam led 18-3 after one quarter and coasted to its second straight victory.
We came out and played really well to start the game, NP coach Jarrod Duff said. Our pressure was effective early. We didnt stay in it long and concentrated on being in our half court defense and concentrating on our rotations on the defensive end.
The Cougars led 37-3 at halftime and 59-3 after three quarters.
When we came out for the second half, we went on a run in the first couple of minutes and built a comfortable lead, Duff said. The rest of the game, we were able to get tons of minutes for people who dont play as much as our starters.
Emilee Henninger led the Cougars with 13 points, while Dana Tennis added 11 and Kinzey Young had eight.
