GMS students successful in solo and ensemble competitions

TERRE HAUTE -- Greencastle Middle School instrumental students competed in the Indiana State School Music Association Solo and Ensemble competition at Terre Haute North High School.

There are five different groups that a student could enter, from Group V (easier music) to Group I (very difficult). Each solo and ensemble is graded in several different categories, including intonation, tone quality, note and rhythm accuracy, interpretation, dynamics and musicianship. Points are awarded and final ratings given from gold to participation.

The results are as follows:

Group V -- Gold Division: Hunter Miller, trumpet solo; Kaylee Rowings, trumpet solo; Boyd Ensley, trombone solo; Collin Short, alto saxophone solo; Maria Serapio, alto saxophone solo; Rudey Hagen, snare drum solo; Kadence Shaner, Gabi Merrell and Rain Minartz, clarinet trio; Brighton Boggess, Alyssa Goebel and Gillian Jones, clarinet trio; Bella Green, Hannah Seaman and Aleyce Green, woodwind trio; Ryleigh Tuttle, Alice Howard, Boyd Ensley and Hunter Miller, brass quartet; Ben Huff, Carter Brown, Vincent Martoglio and Connor Barcus, trombone quarter; Vincent Martoglio, Iris Mackenzie and Fiona Good, brass trio; and Maieasha Rashid, Harley Whitis, Amanda Cady, Madison Voorhis and Juliette Tomamichel, woodwind quartet.

Group IV -- Gold Division: Ben Huff, trombone solo; Andrew Thede, clarinet solo; Molly Carver, clarinet solo; Maieasha Rashid, flute solo; Casey Crary, alto saxophone solo; Stephen Dombrowski, alto saxophone solo; Fiona Good, french horn solo; Rylan Foxx, flute solo; Ethan Maier, snare drum solo; Molly Ramey, soprano saxophone solo; Anastasia Wood, Zoe Weltz, Paige Kaiser and Neva Brown, woodwind quartet; Stephen Dombrowski, Jacob Carter and Casey Crary, alto saxophone trio; and Iris Mackenzie, Jeremy Robbins, Ben Staggers and Simon Lausee, trumpet quartet.

Group III -- Gold Division: Neva Brown, clarinet solo; Molly Ramey, alto saxophone solo; Paige Kaiser, clarinet solo; and Sydney Anderson, alto saxophone solo.

“I am very proud of all of these students,” Kathryn Dory, director of GMS bands, said. “Their hard work paid off with all participants bringing home a gold rating.
