Genealogy program involving Putnam County set Feb. 13

TERRE HAUTE -- The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will host the free program “Researching Techniques for Clay, Putnam and Clark Counties” on Monday, Feb. 13 in the Vigo County Public Library at Seventh and Poplar streets in Terre Haute.

Doors to lower-level conference rooms will open at 6 p.m. with the program starting at 6:30.

The presentation on Putnam County will be made by Tony Barger, head of local history and genealogy at the Putnam County Public Library where he works as an archivist.

Barger earned his master’s degree in library science from Indiana University. While at IU, he held positions with the IU Archives, where he worked to process collections and digitize materials for IU’s online digital collections.

Representing Clay County, Pat Wilkinson received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and library science from Indiana State University. She is an active member of the Clay County Genealogy Society where she has held virtually every officer position in that organization. She also taught school for more than 33 years.

Dalanne Miller of Clark County has had a passion for genealogy and family history research for many years. For a long time, Miller has volunteered at the Clark County Genealogical Library. In 2009, Miller undertook the task of locating and documenting all the cemeteries in Clark County. She also has transcribed and corrected the records of the Marshall Cemetery.
