City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to eight dispatches.

• At 1:54 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 208 E. Olive St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 2:06 p.m.

• At 10:29 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to reports of a car on fire at the intersection of Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive. However, upon arrival, GFD discovered the owner of the vehicle had already extinguished the flames. GFD then monitored the situation, returning to station at 10:41 p.m.

• At 3:46 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 2200 E. State Road 240 (Chiyoda U.S.A.) but was disregarded en route. GFD subsequently returned to station at 3:50 a.m.

• At 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a pull-station alarm at 807 S. College Ave. but determined the alarm to be false. GFD then reset the alarm before returning to station at 6:57 p.m.

• At 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, GFD and the Greencastle Police Department used newly-acquired sensor equipment to test an assortment of substances, causing an expected alarm. GFD reset the alarm at 7:28 p.m.

• At 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 208 E. Olive St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 7:28 p.m.

• At 7:46 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to reports of an electrical-short at 1105 N. Jackson St. (the Putnam County Museum). Lighting in the back of the building had been turning off an on sporadically and the owners of the museum shut off the breaker before GFD’s arrival. GFD returned to station at 8:49 p.m.

• At 11:41 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to another unnecessarily-tripped pull-station fire alarm at 905 S. College Ave. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 11:50 p.m.

• At 2 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm but was disregarded while en route to 200 W. Hanna St. GFD subsequently returned to station at 2:04 a.m.
