Author/reporter Ruben Castaneda will present “A Tale of Journalism, Addiction and Redemption” when he visits DePauw University on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Visiting Professor of Journalism Miranda S. Spivack is bringing Castaneda, currently a writer for US News & World Report, to campus to speak about his life, work and career.

His program is free and open to the public at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 in Watson Forum of the Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media, 609 S. Locust St, Greencastle.

A former Washington Post reporter and the author of “S Street Rising,” Castaneda offers a wide-ranging account of life as a police reporter in strife-town Washington, D.C. He will also focus on his own struggle with crack addiction as he was covering the political downfall of another crack addict, then-D.C. Mayor Marion Barry.

His book also takes an unsparing look at the vagaries of contemporary journalism.

The Washington Post named “S Street Rising” one of 50 notable works of nonfiction published in 2014. There will be a book signing after his talk.
