PUTNAMVILLE -- In a ceremony led by Indiana State Police Supt. Doug Carter Tuesday, 54 probationary troopers from the 76th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy class were issued their state police cars at the Indiana State Police (ISP) Youth Education and Historical Center, which is adjacent to the ISP Indianapolis District.

Two of the officers -- Kevin A. Fowler and Courtland A. Woodruff -- have been assigned to the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post and will commence solo patrol in the district which covers Putnam, Parke, Vermillion, Vigo, Clay and Sullivan counties.

The probationary officers recently completed a three-month field training period with veteran troopers. They will serve a one-year probationary period before attaining permanent status as a trooper.

In addition to the field training, the new officers received approximately 950 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques when they were assigned to Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.

The curriculum included criminal law instruction, traffic law instruction, emergency vehicle operations training, psychology, first responder and self-defense. They also developed skills in criminal investigation, vehicle crash investigation, impaired driver prevention and detection, and other law enforcement related topics.

The new Putnamville troopers now on solo patrol are:

-- Kevin A. Fowler, 21, a Morgan County native, a graduate of Martinsville High School and a graduate of Vincennes University with an Associate of Science degree in Conservation Law Enforcement.

Prior to graduating from the ISP Recruit Academy, Fowler was a 911 dispatcher for the Morgan County Central Dispatch. He enjoys hunting and fishing and anything outdoors.

Fowler, who will primarily patrol Putnam County, resides in Martinsville.

-- Courtland A. Woodruff, 28, an Illinois native having graduated from Jacksonville, Ill., High School and Southern Illinois University with a bachelor of science degree in criminology.

Prior to his graduation from the ISP Academy, Woodruff was a pharmacy technician. He enjoys exercising, the outdoors, and anything sports related.

Woodruff will be primarily assigned to patrol Vigo County. He resides in Terre Haute.
