Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to three recent traffic mishaps.

• A Reelsville man was cited Wednesday morning for leaving the scene of a minor traffic accident on Manhattan Road.

At 6:13 a.m. Donald Myers Jr., 57, Reelsville, was traveling southwest in a 2001 Ford F250. Rhonda J. Gorbett, 43, Greencastle, was traveling northeast in a 2003 Ford F250.

Both drivers later told PCSD Capt. Tom Helmer the other was left of center. As the trucks passed, their drivers’ side mirrors collided, shattering both.

After the crash, Myers continued without stopping, prompting Corbett to turn around and pursue him while also notifying police.

Clay County Deputy Josh Crouse eventually stopped Myers on Clay County Road 900 North. A citation was later issued by Capt. Helmer.

Damage was estimated at less than $1,000.

• At 6:34 a.m. on Thursday, Jason C. Rock, 39, Crawfordsville, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor when a deer ran into his front fender area.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Kasandra K. Burns, 56, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 300 South just east of County Road 300 West in a 2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Burns told Lt. Donnie Pettit she swerved to miss a deer, at which time she left the roadway and hit a mailbox and a concrete driveway structure.
