Six swimmers going to sectional finals

TERRE HAUTE -- Several Putnam County athletes qualified for Saturday's finals and consolation rounds in the Terre Haute South boys' swimming sectional preliminaries on Thursday at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.

Topping the individual performances was North Putnam senior Joe Davis, who recorded the third-best preliminary time in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:04.57. Davis also qualified for the sectional finals in the 100-yard breaststroke with a fifth-place time of 1:03.91.

Other individuals making the finals were North Putnam senior Nick Young (fourth in 200 freestyle and sixth in 500 freestyle), Greencastle senior Nathan Gobert (fifth in 50 freestyle and sixth in 100 freestyle), South Putnam junior Jared Seidler (eighth in 50 freestyle) and Greencastle junior Preston Headley (eighth in 100 freestyle and eighth in 100 breaststroke).

Several relay teams also qualified for the finals.

Other competing teams in the sectional are Terre Haute South, Terre Haute North, West Vigo, Plainfield, Tri-West, Avon, Cascade and Danville.

The winner of each event in Saturday's sectional finals qualifies for the state finals next weekend in Indianapolis.
