Cougars top 100-point mark for first time in more than 20 years

ROACHDALE – The North Putnam Cougars ended their regular season Saturday night in a big way with a 100-55 win over Christel House Academy.

The Cougars had a lot of emotion surrounding them with Senior Night and Homecoming all on the same day.

They started the game really slowly, committing seven turnovers but also forcing seven turnovers.

Senior Corbin Judy and Junior Elliot Gross sparked a big second quarter for the Cougars. The Cougar defense caused seven turnovers in the second quarter and only allowed 15 points.

The Cougars topped the 100-point mark for the first time since Feb. 24, 1995, when they defeated Monrovia 120-97.

“It was pretty awesome to score 100 points in the first time in more than 20 years for North Putnam,” senior Preston Porter said. “I’m also glad everyone got to play and the atmosphere was awesome.”

The Cougar defense was ready for more in the second half, causing 10 turnovers and only allowed nine points, while scoring 31 points.

North Putnam coach Colin McCartt put in seniors Jack Kendall and Andrew Rude sending the North Putnam Crowd into a frenzy.

The Cougars were inching closer and closer to 100 points and Rude stepped out to hit a big 3-pointer for the Cougars to put them at 100.

”It felt good, definitely with Andy Rude hitting the 100th point with his knock down jumper,” senior Duke Duff said.

The Cougars sent all seven seniors out with a bang going into Sectional 44 play.

North Putnam (which finished 10-13) will open play in the South Putnam sectional on March 3 against the winner of a first-round game between Southmont and Cloverdale.
