Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to a pair of recent property-damage accidents.

• At 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Brian K. Berry, 51, Greencastle, was southbound on Bloomington Street in Greencastle in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. Jenny L. Wiggs, 31, Greencastle, was also southbound in a 2014 GMC Acadia. Both vehicles were stopped at the light at Veterans Highway.

Wiggs told Capt. Tom Helmer she was momentarily distracted and thought Berry had moved forward after the light turned green. She let off her brake and hit the rear of Berry’s truck.

Wiggs then tried to hit her brake and accidentally hit the gas, striking Berry’s truck again.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

• At 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, William D. Taner, 55, Reelsville, was westbound on County Road 1000 South in a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado.

Taner told Capt. Tom Helmer a deer ran in the road and he swerved left to avoid the collision. The left front wheel went off the travel portion of the roadway and into the ditch, causing him to lose control.

The pickup then hit an earthen embankment, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side and slide down the road about 45 feet, coming to rest on its top.

Tanner exited the truck through the back window of the cab.

Operation Life transported Tanner to St. Vincent Clay Hospital. Reelsville Fire Department and Deputy Matt Biggs also assisted at the scene.

Family members got the vehicle upright and drove it to Tanner’s residence.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
