Carolee Smithers

Carolee Smithers, 81, of Peoria, Ill., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at UnityPoint Proctor.

She was born on Dec. 18, 1935 in Morton, Ind., to Hubert and Elizabeth "Granny" (Eggers) Clodfelter. She married James Smithers on April 3, 1953 in Greencastle. They were just 40 days shy of reaching 64 years of marriage.

Surviving is her husband, James; three children, Jim Smithers Jr. of Peoria, Becky (Dave) Cannon of Peoria and Brenda (Raymond) Coulson of Bartonville; five grandchildren, Andy (Brandi) Ledbetter, Zac Ledbetter, Bradley Clough, Britnee Clough and Shay Smithers; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Keith Clodfelter, Joe Clodfelter and John Clodfelter; two sisters, Sandra Elliott and Judy Rainey; and many nieces and nephews.

Carolee was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim Clodfelter and Bill Clodfelter; and one sister, Charlotte Smith.

Carolee worked in management for Venture in Peoria for many years.

She was a member of Glen Oak Christian Church in Peoria.

Carolee was a Girl Scout leader, an avid reader, enjoyed craft shows, cooking and especially making homemade noodles with her granddaughter. She was such a people person, and loved her friends and family with her whole heart.

A memorial service will be conducted at noon on March 4 at Glen Oak Christian Church in Peoria with a visitation from 10 a.m-noon. Pastor Randy Williams will officiate.

Another memorial service will be held at noon March 11 at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Morton, with a visitation from 10 a.m-noon. Pastor Stacy O'Hair will officiate.

Burial will take place at Union Chapel Cemetery in Morton.
