County Jail

Ten people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 2:35 p.m. Zackary Jacob Eaglin, 29, Gosport, was lodged at the jail on a Clay County warrant for burglary.

• At 11:04 a.m. Anthony Justin Dodson, 32, Coatesville, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 10:40 a.m. Luna Lesly Araseli, 20, Blythe, Calif., was arrested for possession of a narcotic drug.

Sunday

• At 5:19 a.m. Kenneth Michael Finchum, 37, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for invasion of privacy.

• At 4:11 a.m. Daniel Stephen Roach, 35, Cloverdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 10:41 p.m. Megan Lynn Gaskin, 21, Gosport, was booked in on a Hamilton County warrant.

• At 2:30 p.m. Choena Jasso, 21, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for driving as a habitual traffic violator.

• At 1:56 a.m. Nicholas Adam Maga, 36, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a warrant for unlawful possession of a syringe.

Friday

• At 3:36 p.m. Christopher Ty Kwiek, 31, Kokomo, was arrested for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 11:07 a.m. Brandon Douglas Winn, 31, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a warrant for failure to appear.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Cory Smith, 31, Fillmore, was arrested by Officer Matt Huffman near the intersection of Arlington and Washington streets.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Smith is facing charges of possession of a synthetic drug, possession of paraphernalia and a probation violation.

Two recent citations were issued by city officers.

• At 8:08 a.m. Tuesday, Byron Hudson, 59, Terre Haute, was cited by Officer Darrel Bunten.

Stopped at Bloomington and Hanna streets, Hudson was cited for driving left of center.

• At 9:49 p.m. Sunday, Kaylee Sutherlin, 19, Cloverdale, was ticketed by Officer Brad Hiatt.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Sutherlin was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Three recent property-damage accidents were investigated by city officers.

• At 3:36 p.m. Friday, a two-car accident occurred at Bloomington and Hanna streets.

Officer Nick Eastham reported that Melissa Turner, 33, Greencastle, was northbound on Bloomington Street near Hanna, driving a 2003 Honda Accord when she apparently failed to see a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass, driven by Steve Walker, 21, Greencastle, had stopped to turn left onto Hanna Street.

The resulting collision caused an estimated $10,000-$25,000 damage.

• At 3:24 p.m. Feb. 28, a two-vehicle mishap was reported at Indianapolis Road and 10th Street.

Marie Tippin, 69, Greencastle, was reportedly stopped in westbound traffic, attempting to turn left into Acute Medical Care, when her 2010 GMC truck was struck from behind by a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Samuel Fogle, 18, Greencastle.

Fogle told Sgt. Ed Wilson that he applied his brakes but his tires slid on the wet pavement.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 2:45 p.m. Feb. 28, a three-vehicle accident was reported on Indianapolis Road, just east of Percy Julian Drive.

Officer Eastham reported that Linda Cox, 54, Greencastle, was westbound in a 2000 Dodge Stratus when she attempted to move into the left turn lane and did not see a 2009 Ford Econoline van, driven by Daniel Whitlow, 63, Indianapolis, was already beside her in that lane.

The vehicles collided, resulting in the Cox car swerving into the rear of a third vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet driven by Kayla Spiker, 23, Greencastle.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to one recent property-damage accident.

• At 3:25 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, Debora J. Cheek, 56, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 36 about 1,000 feet east of County Road 490 West in a 2011 Ford F350.

Cheek’s truck collided with a large tree that had fallen in the road. She told Deputy Jeffrey Freeman she was traveling about 50 mph and could not see the tree due to poor visibility from heavy rain.

Cheek was uninjured but the truck had to be towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to five dispatches and two medical runs.

• At 12:10 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 500 Linwood Dr. but was disregarded en route. GFD returned to station at 12:13 p.m.

• At 12:19 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 109 W. Hanna St. and was back in service at 12:28 p.m.

• At 6:20 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 106 S. Spring St. and was back in service at 6:27 p.m.

• At 1:27 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD assisted with the removal of a downed tree in the roadway in the area of Locust and Berry streets. GFD subsequently returned to station at 2:01 a.m.

• At 8 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 200 W. Hanna St. (DePauw University’s indoor track and field center). The alarm was determined to be due to rain. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 8:09 a.m.
