South Putnam kindergarten orientation schedule set

Sunday, March 19, 2017

The annual South Putnam Community School Corporation kindergarten orientation for the 2017-18 school year will be conducted April 6 at Central Elementary and April 11 at Fillmore Elementary.

Students and parents should attend the orientation session of the school they will be attending in the fall. A variety of information and activities are scheduled.

The dates and times for each school are listed below. Parents are asked to arrive promptly at the start time of the session they plan to attend.

Persons are asked to contact their respective school if unable to attend the scheduled session.

Central Elementary, April 7, 4 p.m. for last names A-M and 6 p.m. for last names N-Z.

Fillmore Elementary, April 11, 5-7 p.m.

A child must be five years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2017 to be eligible for kindergarten next year. To be eligible for first grade, a child must be six years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2017, except for those children who attended a year of kindergarten previously in another school corporation.

During the orientation session, a pre-school screening check will be administered to each child. All children must be screened before being admitted to kindergarten for the first time.

Those children who are not screened during the orientation will be screened the first week of enrolling in kindergarten this fall.

Parents must present the child’s official birth certificate and immunization record as required by law (an official birth certificate may be obtained from the Board of Health in the county in which your child was born). Those records will be copied and returned to you.

Each school is taking a survey to determine the number of students who will be participating in orientation. Parents are asked to notify the school if they have a child or if they know of a child that will be entering school next year.
