Cloverdale board to go paperless

CLOVERDALE -- As the Cloverdale School Board seeks to go paperless, Five-Star Technology Director Steve Ricketts presented some ideas and suggestions for the board’s consideration at the board’s March meeting.

He suggested two programs, BoardDocs and BlueSky. The first, costing $3,000 per year for the LT version and $9,000 for the Pro, is well-equipped with many features. The second, costing only $588 per year, has fewer features but is easier to use.

Superintendent Greg Linton said, with the board’s agreement, that a dedicated program is probably more than they need, and asked about the uses and security of programs like Google Docs.

The idea was not entirely written off, however. Ricketts has set up demo versions of both programs for the board and Superintendent Linton to experiment with.

In other developments:

-- B.A.S.S. Program: The board approved the participation of two high school students, Mason Thompson and Logan Abner, in the South Putnam B.A.S.S. (competitive bass fishing) program for a one-year pilot effort.

-- Claims: The board approved the claims at a total of $746,215.66, an increase from last month of $25,049.59 and of $13,824.29 from the year’s average.

-- Recognitions: “We’d like to recognize Mrs. Lafever and her sixth-grade choir for receiving the gold at this weekend’s competition and a silver for her eighth-grade choir,” President Vivian Whitaker said. “To Mr. Metzger, for his seventh- and eighth-grade band receiving the gold. Also, the Emerald Drum Line, receiving eighth place at the Ben Davis Invitational, which qualifies them for the regionals at Decatur Central this weekend. And congratulations to Teacher Jami Sipe and her student, junior Trinity Rairden, who has her art work published in the National Spanish Honor Society magazine, Albricias.”

-- Students of the Month: The Students of the Month were Kennadi Willis (fourth grade), Yasmin Sorter (fifth grade) and Kyla Baker (junior).
