Mark Timm

Mark Timm’s success as an entrepreneur is no secret.

A proud Putnam County native and South Putnam graduate, the kid from a farm in Fillmore went on to become a national FFA officer before founding 10 businesses and speaking to more than 10 million people in 48 states.

What many may not know is how much of the success Timm credits to motivational speaker Zig Ziglar.

Upon hearing Ziglar speak at an FFA convention about 30 years ago, Timm took to heart the lesson about setting goals and carried it with him through his professional endeavors.

At home, Timm describes a different story. He and wife Ann married in 2011, bringing together a blended family of six kids.

“What I realized is that I wasn’t having the kind of success at home that I was having at work,” Timm told the Greencastle Rotary Club recently.

While he was confidently making hundreds of snap decisions at work, Timm was struggling with the very basics of parenting once he got home.

That’s when Timm came to an important realization about his life.

“I am CEO of the most valuable business in the world” — his family.

From that point, Mark and Ann began running the family more like a business. There are family shareholder meetings in which everyone participates.

The family now has written goals and a mission statement, in much the same way Timm’s business ventures have previously.

Noticing a profound change in the family dynamic, Timm began sharing his message about family 18 months ago.

This eventually prompted a call from Tom Ziglar, son of the Timm’s late hero and CEO of Ziglar Inc.

The younger Ziglar told Timm that his father had always wished to share his message — to be, do and have more — with families.

While this was not always possible in the sorts of conventions Zig Ziglar oversaw, modern technology now makes it possible.

And the Ziglars wanted Timm to take a role of leadership in bringing the message to the masses.

“This is what I was put on this earth to do,” Timm said, saying he had to first become a successful entrepreneur before knowing how to apply it to families.

“This farm boy from Fillmore, Ind., was put on this earth to help families all over the world because families are under attack.”

Timm accepted the challenge and is now the CEO of Ziglar Family, with help from another local entrepreneur, Bobby Hopper, who serves as Ziglar Family COO.

From right here in Putnam County, these local leaders are spearheading a new program to bring their message to families nationwide in the coming week.

Beginning Monday, March 27, the 7-Day Family Challenge is designed to show families how to be, do and have more through a series of seven online videos to empower families to experience a week of “wins.”

Ziglar Family has teamed up with seven notable names to challenge families in the areas of relationships, work-life integration, financial, physical, communication, spiritual and community.

Mark and Ann will host the video seres, but the individual days will feature:

• Dave Ramsey: America’s trusted voice on money and business, personal money management expert and popular national radio personality, Dave Ramsey shares his No. 1 most important financial habit for families with free tools they can start using right away.

• Dr. Gary Chapman: His book “The Five Love Languages” has sold more than 10 million copies in English alone. He’ll explore how understanding each of the Five Love Languages can help families connect more deeply with one another and challenge them to take the next step toward becoming a more caring family.

• Michael and Gail Hyatt: Social media expert, president and founder of Platform University, Michael Hyatt is joined by his wife and mother of their six daughters, Gail. The couple addresses the topic of communication in families by taking a look at the importance of family mealtime—and shares a great way to make that daily connection really count.

• Dr. Josh Axe is a doctor of natural medicine who operates one of the top 10 most visited natural health websites in the world with 6 million monthly visitors. Dr. Axe shares his top three easy steps for families to make significant changes in their overall health and well-being.

• Brian Buffini: One of the nation’s top realtors and founder of Buffini & Co., Brian Buffini has trained three million business professionals in 37 countries. He is a dynamic, motivational speaker who travels the world sharing a message of encouragement about how to “live the good life.”

Tony focuses on maintaining a strong family relationship with his wife and 10 children while serving as an analyst for NBC Sports and helping strengthen families.

• Zig Ziglar’s own children, Tom, Julie and Cindy: Zig’s children come together in an exclusive session to share the core advice from their father on spiritual matters. Together they continue Mr. Ziglar’s legacy through their work with Ziglar, Inc.
