Library to open parking lot bids April 3

Putnam County Public Library Director Grier Carson has announced that the final plans for the new parking lot have come in.

The plans provide 17 more spaces, better drainage and a softer 90-degree turn. It also moves the entrance from College Avenue to Walnut Street. The changes are to be done in such a way as to allow for more improvements in the future.

Bids were due Friday, and will be opened and one selected during a special meeting on April 3 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kiwanis Room.

In other developments:

-- Absences: President Alan Zerkel was absent.

-- Candy Land: A life-sized Candy Land will be set up in the Kiwanis Room April 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.

-- Claims: The board approved claims at a total of $67,283.76, an increase from last month of $9,398.97 and of $14,480.65 from the year’s average.

-- LGBT+: In conjunction with DePauw University, the library will be bringing in speakers for the LGBT+ book club.

-- PALS: Putnam Adult Literacy Services will launch Aug. 4.

-- Staff In-Service: The board approved closing the library for a staff in-service day on May 12.

-- Winter stats: Director Carson reported that library outreach participation and door count had increased since November.

The next regular PCPL Board meeting will be April 19 at 6 p.m. in the Kiwanis Room. There will be a special meeting to choose a bid for parking lot improvements April 3 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kiwanis Room.
