RACCOON — A bridge project will restrict U.S. 231 traffic in nothern Putnam County for up to four months, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced Monday morning.

Work on the bridge over the abandoned Baltimore and Ohio Railroad will restrict U.S. 231 traffic just north of State Road 236 to a single 12-foot lane on or after Monday, April 3. Temporary signals will be installed to control the flow of traffic.

The bridge deck overlay and superstructure replacement project is scheduled to continue through the end of July.

The project was awarded to HIS Constructors for $2.5 million. This contract includes other bridges in Putnam, Montgomery, Parke, Fountain and Boone counties.

In announcing the project, INDOT officials also urged drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.
