Wilson wins indoor state title; 3,200 time best of both levels

BLOOMINGTON – Sophomore Emma Wilson of Greencastle easily captured the 3,200-meter run title for schools in Classes 1A-3A on Saturday at the Hoosier State Relays indoor track and field state finals.

Wilson finished the event with a time of 10:52.27, more than 25 seconds faster than senior Megan Slamkowski of Guerin Catholic.

Wilson’s time would have also been the best in the large school division, which was won by Sophia Rigg of Zionsville in 10:58.47.

Senior Nailah Ray of Greencastle placed 19th in the shot put with a distance of 31-9.5, while Greencastle’s distance medley relay team placed third in 12:55.85.

Senior Clayton Wilson of Greencastle placed 15th in the boys’ 3,200-meter run in a time of 9:59.61, .32 seconds ahead of South Putnam senior Kiefer Vittetow. Carlie Capps of Greencastle, also a senior, placed 17th in the shot put with a distance of 42-9.5.

South Putnam also placed ninth in the boys’ 4,000-meter distance medley relay.

Cloverdale junior Tyler Kaeff placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.55.

The Clovers placed sixth in the 4x400 relay, while junior Blake Willis was eighth in the pole vault at 12-6.
