Arrested earlier this week on a 2014 warrant for neglect of a dependent, a Minnesota man now stands accused of molesting a six-year-old.

Raymond P. Trimbach, 34, Cloquet, Minn., was arrested by Greencastle Police Officer Matt Huffman on Monday and booked in the jail at 10:51 p.m.

In the neglect case, charged as a Class D felony, Trimbach is accused of leaving a minor child home alone at the Greencastle residence where he had stayed with the boy’s family in early 2014.

The Class D felony carries a range of six months to three years.

In the course of the investigation, the child told investigators in August 2014 that the Trimbach had also inappropriately touched his genital and buttocks areas.

Investigators allege that after learning of the warrant in the neglect case, Trimbach moved to Minnesota.

Both Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office investigator David Meadows and the child’s mother continued trying to make contact with Trimbach, something the mother finally did earlier this month.

According to court documents, the mother convinced Trimbach to return to Indiana “to clear up the child neglect complaint.”

Having coordinated with Officer Huffman, the mother picked Trimbach up from an Indianapolis bus station on and took him to the Greencastle Walmart, where he was taken into police custody.

On Tuesday, Meadows interviewed both Trimbach’s wife, who had traveled with him, and his sister-in-law, who traveled from Ohio to pick up Trimbach’s wife after his arrest.

Meadows said the sister-in-law told him she “had heard for years that Raymond was suspected of having issues with younger children.” She went on to sy she never left her children alone with Raymond.

The investigator then spoke to Trimbach. After some questioning, the defendant told Meadows he had been watching the alleged victim and his younger brother. Trimbach allegedly told Meadows he did not know what happened, but he found himself with his hands on the boy’s unclothed genitals and buttocks.

The defendant told Meadows he stopped and asked himself what he was doing as well what the boy’s family members would do if they found out.

Trimbach told Meadows that he packed his things and departed for Minnesota shortly after the incident.

On Wednesday, Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter filed a Level 4 felony charge of child molesting against Trimbach. A Level 4 felony carries a sentencing range of three to 16 years, with an advisory sentence of nine years.

He has yet to appear in Putnam Circuit Court on the new charge.
