James David Mackey

James David Mackey, 65, of Brazil, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Born March 31, 1952 in Greencastle, he was the son of James Douglas and Mary Ruth (Hanneman) Mackey Shamel.

He was a 1970 graduate of Greencastle High School.

James was a United States Army veteran, having attended the Wentworth Military School and serving his country in Vietnam.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America, VFW and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

He had also worked various construction jobs.

He survived by his wife, Diana (Miller) Mackey; children James (Rachel) Mackey, Jessica (Joseph) Brown, Nina (Jerry King) Mackey and Nathan (Kayla Withrow) Mackey; stepsons Joshua (Karen) Miller and Jeremy Bunten; sisters Marcia (William) Frost, Brenda (Steve) Gooch and Rebecca (Mark) Hughes; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services with military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7 at Forest Hill Cemetery.
