Auditions set April 9-10 for opener to Playhouse season

Putnam County Playhouse will have two sessions of auditions for the musical “Curtains,” which will open its 56th season.

The first session will be Sunday, April 9 at 3 p.m. A second session is scheduled for Monday, April 10 at 7 p.m. Both sessions will be at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre off Round Barn Road in Greencastle.

The musical is being directed by Jack Randall Earles. Erik Foster is vocal director, while Marilyn Burdsall Rush is the pianist and pit conductor.

“Curtains” will be produced June 1-3 and June 7-10. It is being sponsored by Shuee’s Furniture and Electronics.

“Curtains” is a musical mystery-comedy about the murder of the leading lady during a pre-Broadway tryout in Boston.

Roles available include Frank Cioffi, the detective assigned to the case; Georgia and Aaron, the writers of the musical; Carmen, the producer, her husband Sidney, and her daughter Bambi, who is also in the show.

Other roles -- some non singing -- include the cast of the musical, the production staff, the director and the local drama critic.

Besides “Curtains,” the 2017 Playhouse season will include “The Foreigner,” set for July 13-15 and July 19-22; the musical comedy “The Addams Family,” on stage Aug. 10-12 and Aug. 16-19; and the farce “Laughing Stock,” scheduled to close the season with shows Sept. 7-9 and Sept. 13-16.
