With the beginning of April comes road construction season, and the literal and figurative signs of the season have been popping up around Putnam County in the form of temporary traffic signals, orange constructon signs and men clad in yellow, reflective vests. At Raccoon (top) in northern Putnam County, the temporary traffic light was already in place Monday afternoon, causing traffic backups on U.S. 231 as crews begin work on the bridge over the abandoned railroad just north of State Road 236. Meanwhile, work had not officially commenced at other sites, but motorists were warned of a one-lane road and a flagger at Brick Chapel (middle left), where a temporary signal was being installed. Additionally, signs on and around State Road 240 east of Greencastle (bottom left) signal the coming construction once weather has improved. INDOT crews have also been at work making other repairs, such as the two workers replacing a traffic sensor (right) at Indianapolis Road and Veterans Memorial Highway on the east side of Greencastle.
