Drain Deterrent

Banner Graphic/ERIC BERNSEE If you have been among those wondering about the purple mini-van parked in the through lane at the entrance/exit to Family Video and Jimmy Jones on Indianapolis Road for more than a week now, Greencastle Police Chief Tom Suthlerin has the answer. The owner of the liquor store and strip center has parked the vehicle there, Sutherlin told the Banner Graphic, because the drain grate at the entry is damaged in the area immediately in front of the vehicle. If a vehicle would drive across the drain, he reasons, it would more than likely result in tire damage. A note on the back window of the van states, “Road closed, please go around.” One byproduct of the situation has resulted in several cars seen entering the lot on the wrong side of the lane divider recently.

  • Wouldn't the solution be to fix the drain grate?

  • Since the window is large why not put a bigger sign on the window??? I guess fixing the drain grate would be too easy, huh???

  • While they're at it, why not take out the silly concrete divider? The lane going into the strip center is way to narrow.

  • They need to move the van and put up orange barrels until they fix the drain. Traffic turning left out of Kroger is waiting to see which way the van is going, not realizing there is a sign on the back. That whole parking lot is poorly built. Imagine how bad it will be if they ever fill the vacant shops!
